The Loser's Shadow
Shadows are powerful metaphors but we think little of our own as we go around every day, casting them everywhere. Shadows are proof we exist. If anyone ever makes a convincing holographic projection of a human, I bet a hard problem will be making a good shadow. My shadow has touched thousands of people in my lifetime, most of them unknown to me and never encountered again. And their shadows have touch me. Often, our shadows mingle, overlapping. Intimate, but meaningless.
