A
weekend worker for over a decade, the Complete and Total Loser is off Mondays and Tuesdays. This work schedule puts the him in a separate realm from most.
He prefers it that way. He gets errands done faster -- no lines. But there's more.
Sundays for the unloved can be lonelier than holidays alone, which have a bittersweet feeling that can be good company. When the Loser didn't work Sundays he'd stand in lines of young couples to buy bagels or the Times, exercise crazy amounts, nap, eat hoagies and entire bags of sour cream and onion potato chips, Pepperidge Farm cookies, and giant chocolate bars. He'd watch idiotic shows on television.
All this to fill the void. But if you work on weekends, that void is filled, and the special quality of weekdays free doesn't create a new one.
