Don't let your kids interact with any device with a screen until they are six, including television, and then not for longer than one hour a day. There is no reason a child cannot be reading novels by that age. Make them learn to play a musical instrument; they'll thank you in the end. If you ever hear yourself say, "Well, I did/didn't do that when I was a kid and it didn't hurt me!" you are being a bad parent.
